Questions homeowners ask us.
These are the things Lubbock homeowners ask us most before a remodel or an outdoor project. If yours isn't here, call us at (806) 853-7158.

Getting started
What does Giovanni Home Services do?
We're a family-owned remodeling and outdoor living company in Lubbock, Texas. Our interior side, Giovanni Crafted Interiors, handles kitchens, bathrooms, hardwood and tile flooring, trim carpentry, cabinetry, and built-ins. Our outdoor side, Giovanni Outdoor Living, designs and builds outdoor kitchens, pergolas, pavilions, patios, fire features, decks, and landscapes. Because both sides are under one roof, we can plan a project that crosses the back door, such as a kitchen that opens onto a new covered patio.
Where do you work?
We're based in southwest Lubbock, in the 79424 area, and we serve homeowners in Lubbock and the surrounding communities. Our local guides cover Lubbock and nearby towns such as Wolfforth, Shallowater, Ransom Canyon, and Idalou. If you're outside Lubbock, call us at (806) 853-7158 and ask. The answer depends on the project, and it only takes a minute to find out.
How do I get started?
Call (806) 853-7158 or send the short form on our contact page. We'll call you to set up a consultation at your home. You don't need plans, a budget worked out to the dollar, or even a clear idea yet. It helps to have a list of what bothers you about the space now and a few photos of rooms or yards you like. We'll bring a tape measure and a lot of questions.
Can you work from my designer's plans or my own drawings?
Yes. Some clients come to us with nothing but a problem to solve, and we handle the design. Others arrive with drawings from a designer or an architect. One of the outdoor kitchens on our projects page started that way. The client worked with a designer on the concept, and we consulted on finishes, managed the project, and built it. Either path works. What matters is that the plan is complete before the build begins.
Proposals, cost, and schedule
What's in a Giovanni proposal?
Three things: a written scope of work that says what we'll build, change, or remove, the materials we'll use, and a clear list of what isn't included. If you haven't picked something yet, such as a tile or a faucet, it's shown as an allowance and labeled that way. You should know exactly what you're agreeing to before any work starts.
How much will my project cost?
It depends on the size of the space, the materials you choose, and how much has to change behind the walls or under the ground. Moving plumbing, gas, or load-bearing walls costs more than refreshing what's there. Outdoors, long utility runs and heavy structures add cost. We don't throw out a number over the phone, because a guess helps nobody. After we see the space and understand what you want, you get a detailed written proposal with real figures.
How long will my project take?
Your proposal and schedule will give you the real answer for your job. As a general guide for this kind of work, a flooring or trim project often runs days to a couple of weeks. A bathroom often runs several weeks. A full kitchen or a large outdoor build can run a couple of months or more. The biggest schedule risks are late decisions and special-order materials, which is why we settle selections before work begins.
Do you take on small projects?
Often, yes. Our project list includes a garden gate, a set of entry steps, and a tile backsplash right next to full kitchens and a garage conversion. We care more about fit than size. If the work calls for careful craftsmanship and you value that, we're probably a good match. If we aren't the right company for your project, we'll tell you so you can find someone who is.
Permits and trades
Will my project need a permit in Lubbock?
Some will and some won't. The City of Lubbock exempts finish work such as painting, tile, carpet, cabinets, and countertops. A permit is required for structural changes and for new or altered electrical, plumbing, gas, or mechanical work. Anything attached to your house, such as a patio cover, is treated as an addition and needs a permit. Rules do change, so confirm your project with the city. Our guide to permits in Lubbock explains more.
Who does the electrical and plumbing work?
Texas regulates electricians, plumbers, and air conditioning contractors at the state level, and that work must be done by people who hold those state licenses. If your project includes any of it, your proposal will say so, and it will say how that part of the job is handled. Ask us about it during the consultation. It's a fair question to ask any contractor, and you should get a clear answer before you sign anything.
During and after the build
How will I know what's happening during my project?
You'll get progress updates as the work moves along, and you'll have access to a dedicated client portal that keeps your project information organized in one place. If something unexpected comes up, such as a delivery delay or a surprise inside a wall, you'll hear it from us quickly, along with the options. It's one of our six written standards.
Can I live in my home during a remodel?
In most cases, yes. For a kitchen, plan on a temporary setup somewhere else in the house, with a microwave, a coffee maker, and a place to wash dishes. For a bathroom, it helps to have a second one. We protect the floors and furniture that are staying and keep the work area contained and orderly. Before we start, we'll talk through how your family uses the house so the plan fits your routine.
How do you build for Lubbock wind and weather?
By planning for it from the start. The city building code sets the design wind speed at 115 miles an hour and the frost line at 12 inches, so outdoor structures have to be anchored against uplift. Wood flooring has to reach the right moisture level for our dry air before it's installed, and finishes should be chosen with hard water, strong sun, and blowing dust in mind. All of that gets settled in the design and the proposal, before the build. Our article on building for West Texas wind goes deeper.
What happens after my project is finished?
We end every project with a walkthrough. We look at the work together, and anything that isn't right gets fixed. After that, we stay reachable. "Accountability after completion" is one of the six standards we hold ourselves to. We're a family company in the same community as our clients, and our name is on the work. If something we built needs attention later, call us at (806) 853-7158.
