Outdoor living in Lubbock, designed for West Texas weather.
Outdoor kitchens, pergolas, pavilions, patios, decks, and landscapes. We design the structure, the planting, and the way you move between them as one plan, then we build it.

Giovanni Outdoor Living is the outdoor design and build side of Giovanni Home Services, a family-owned company in Lubbock, Texas. We plan and build outdoor structures, kitchens, patios, and landscapes for homeowners in Lubbock and nearby communities.
A backyard here has to earn its keep.
Lubbock gives you clear evenings, big sunsets, and long stretches of good weather. It also gives you a south wind that averages over 12 miles an hour, a sun that bakes west-facing patios, and about 18 inches of rain a year. A yard that ignores those facts gets used three weeks in spring and three in fall.
We design the other kind. A patio cover belongs where it blocks the late sun, even if that isn't dead center on the house. A grill belongs where the wind won't blow out the flame or push smoke into the seating, and the plants should suit the water you'll have. You should end up with a space you use on an ordinary Tuesday.
We take a whole-property view. The architecture, the landscape, and the way water moves across your lot are one system. When they're planned together, each part works better and the yard feels like it belongs to the house.
Five kinds of outdoor work.
Each page goes deep on how the work is built, what it has to stand up to in Lubbock, and what to expect on schedule.

Wind, sun, caliche, and two watering days.
Lubbock's building code sets the design wind speed at 115 miles an hour. For a pergola or pavilion, the real danger is uplift. Wind gets under a roof and tries to lift it like a wing, so footings, post bases, and connections matter more than how heavy the timbers look.
Dig a post hole here and you'll often hit caliche, a hard, chalky layer under the topsoil. It's solid to build on but slow to dig and slow to drain. Footings and drainage have to be planned around it so water doesn't sit against a slab or a post.
The city limits lawn watering to two assigned days a week, and never on Sunday. A landscape that needs water every day is going to struggle here. Native and adapted plants, such as desert willow, blue grama, and buffalograss, are built for that, and shaping the ground so rain soaks in where plants can use it helps even more.

The social hub of the property.
This outdoor kitchen has wide counters, a full commercial stove, a pizza oven, a farmhouse sink, and a dishwasher. The client worked with a designer to draw up their ideas. Our team consulted on finishes, managed the project, and built it.
The countertop installer who came to set the tops told the client, "You don't see cabinets like this anymore." We were glad to hear it.
